  • Your pharmacist is trained to provide expert advice on which path forward is best for you. The outcome of your consultation is at the discretion of your pharmacist, who may also offer lifestyle advice, OTC products, and other prescription products. If they believe a prescription product is recommended for you, they have all the information you need so that you can make an informed choice on your next steps.

Your consultation is free of charge, if the weekly weight loss injection is prescribed then a cost will be associated.

  • BMI is a measurement of whether you are at a healthy weight for your height. It is the most widely used method and acts as a starting point for further discussions about weight and general health. BMI takes into account natural variations in body shape, giving a healthy weight range for a particular height.

Knowing your BMI result, and therefore what category you fall under (ie. underweight, healthy weight, overweight or obese) will help you set goals for managing your weight. Your pharmacist will check your BMI for your during your consultation. You can also calculate your BMI online using the NHS BMI Calculator.

  • If you are eligible, you can book a consultation at a date and time that suits you where your pharmacist will discuss the treatment options with you in detail and, if you’re eligible, you’ll make your payment. Your first dosage of the injections will then be prescribed to you, either in the pharmacy or sent to your address. You’ll then be able to start treatment.

  • Exercise

Exercise can help you burn calories by being active. The food you eat is stored in your body as fat to use as energy, which is used up when you exercise. If you use up less energy than you take in, this fat builds up causing you to gain weight. Exercise can also help prevent some medical conditions like diabetes.

    Diet

Healthy eating is very important when managing your weight. Some top tips include aiming for 2 or more portions of veg in your main meal, eating a portion of fish at least twice a week, keeping carbohydrates to wholegrain and no more than a third of your meal, and choosing small amounts of low-fat spreads. It is also important to stay hydrated – drink 6 to 8 cups of fluid a day – this includes water, tea, coffee and even soup!
