How our Blood Pressure Service can help you.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of premature death in England.

Hypertension is the most significant risk factor for CVD and is one of the top five risk factors for all premature deaths and disability in England, affecting one in four adults. High blood pressure (Hypertension) often rarely shows symptoms until it causes serious harm and is too late. Alarmingly, an estimated 5.5 million people in the country have undiagnosed hypertension.

Early detection and subsequent treatment of hypertension is vital in reducing the risk of CVD via regular blood pressure checks, as untreated high blood pressure can result in severe health complications.

  • More commonly known as high blood pressure - is a serious condition where your heart has to work harder to pump blood around your body consistently. High blood pressure typically doesn't have any symptoms and the only way to know if you have hypertension is to have it checked. If untreated, the arteries can stiffen and narrow, making it easier for fatty material to clog them up and cause heart and circulatory diseases such as heart attack or stroke.

  • Blood pressure is the term used to describe the strength with which your blood pushes on the sides of your arteries as it's pumped around your body.

Low blood pressure (hypotension) is not usually a problem, although it can cause dizziness and fainting in some people.
