Our History
The Pharmacist is a third-generation family-owned business with NHS community pharmacies based across Yorkshire and the north of England. Each one our Pharmacies is integrated into its local community and has a long history with the area in which it provides its services.
Barry Lestner qualified as a pharmacist in 1954. He was the first professional in his family and he worked 7 days a week in Leeds serving the community. In 1975, he took ownership of the pharmacy and continued working hard to instil his values of patient care into the local community. He purchased two more local pharmacies in the community after the pharmacists retired.
Barry’s son David Lestner qualified as a pharmacist in 1984. He worked in the same community in Leeds as his father for 7 years. David took ownership of one of the pharmacies when he retired in 1991. David had the vision that he could provide an improved Pharmacy service for patients by creating a Health Centre in the community, moving the Pharmacy to the same premises as the local Doctors. Over the next 15 years he worked in partnership with Dr Stephen Feldman to support GPs in developing, modernising and improving their practice premises creating Medical Centres incorporating a number of services including Community Pharmacy.
Jason Lestner qualified as a pharmacist in 2011, he worked with David across his group of Pharmacies and supported to improve the range services being provided. In 2014 David and Jason began expanding the group pharmacies. Over the next 9 years they worked together to successfully expand to 34 pharmacies across Yorkshire. Jason specialises in implementing new services in pharmacy and working closely with GPs, local communities and the NHS to expand & improve the Pharmacy services provided in the community.
Care in the community is at the core of our company history. We put our patients first, our Pharmacy team are part of the local community. We make a difference by providing the right support and environment for our Pharmacist and Pharmacy teams to provide a caring service for our patients in the community.
